Chrome Click-by-Voice plugin is super useful for clicking “un-clickable” elements when you are navigating webpages with Dragon for Windows PC (or some other voice control software).
To Enable/Download:
- Ensure that you have some kind of voice control software already on your computer (e.g. Dragon, or some other software that allows you to click things with your voice)
- Download Chrome Web Browser, if you haven’t already.
- Download Chrome Click-by-Voice plugin.
Demo of How To Use Click-By-Voice:
- First, open a Chrome browser window, and click on the address bar. Search for something. (e.g. if you have Dragon installed, say “Open Google Chrome” and “Press Alt D” and then speak what you want to search. (Note that this demo will only work if you search for something)
- Say “Press Control Shift Space” (or whatever voice command is associated with pressing down on Control, Shift, and Space keys and and holding them all down together for a half second). You should then see a little box show up in the upper right hand corner of your web browser screen.
- Next, type in :+ into the little box. For Dragon, you could say “Colon” and then say “Plus” to type by voice. (Note that if you type in :+ and then press the enter key, it will show the little numbers on the screen that are clickable. If you type :- it will hide the numbers, and :++ will show even more little numbers than :+)
- Say “Press Enter” (e.g. press the Enter key), which submits the command (:+, :-, or :++) that you had typed into the box. You should then notice now that the little numbers will show up on screen.
- To select a little number item on the screen, again say “Press Control Shift Space” (press the Control+Shift+Space keys together on the keyboard). Once again, you see the entry box show up.
- Now, type in the little number you want to click on. For example, type in 23 in order to click on the little number 23 associated with one of the items on the page. (e.g. say “twenty three” and Dragon will type 23)
- Next, press the Enter key. (say “Press Enter”).
- If you followed the instructions right, you should now see that the button or webpage element associated with the little number 23 has now been clicked on!
Tip: You can also set up a foot pedal / foot switch to use your foot to “press” the keyboard shortcuts for using Click-By Voice. For example, set up one of the pedals as “Ctrl+Shift+Space” and the other as “Enter”.
